How Much Money Do You Sell In Frags A Year Reef Tank

I make about 500$ per month on average...last month was 675$ so yes it is now financing all of my aquarium expenses and even pay for my car payment.

What type of coral I sell the most? rare paly and zoanthids are very prized and even if I sell them 10$ per polyp while most stores sell them for 30$+ per polyp I still make quite a bit of money and that help pay for more coral and stuff that I want.

I sell mostly paly and zoanthids but also SPS like blue tips acropora, digitata, pocillopora, birdsnest, etc.

I do not ship, never had and never needed to. I usually advertize them in kijiji but so far never managed to sell much through kijiji because they all go too fast just from advertizing in my local forum and from words of mouth.

I don't use a nano though, I have a 75 gallons tank with mixed reef and that way I have plenty of room for growing coral. Some of my acropora grow 1" per month and slit with a lot of branching so it is easy to have stuff to sell when it is growing so fast. I did not start selling stuff right from the begining. For exemple, I bought some nice collector paly like rainbow, armageddon, pink and gold etc..and let them grow for a year, then my colonies reached a large size and are growing fast so now I can frag more. There is always something growing out of proportion that I have to cut and sell. This is like a CC bill and it goes fast with 15$ frags here and there and here and there...

It's not something to become rich for sure as I make around 4000$ to 5000$ per year with this but it is surely paying for electricity relacted to the aquarium, salt, maintenance and corals that I wish to buy, plus a little extra

This is better anyway than having to pay for all the tank expenses without having any income from it. It is a good balance and make having a tank and having to care for it a lot more pleasing.

I don't have a dedicated frag tank and I simply chop off from my own coral what is growing too fast and put it on an acrylic rack that I have in my main tank. When I chop my blue tip acropora for exemple, it has tissue all grown back in a about a week and 2 weeks later it has already new branches growing..a month later they are about 1" tall from where I had made the cut. I am now due to split my big green fluo pocillopora as it is now the size of a mellon. I will reduce it the size of a tennis ball and in a few months it will be back to mellon size.

My advise to you...get rare and beautiful coral...they will NEVER go out of fashion.
